Keenly interested in academics, Dr Nirja has been the Founder Secretary of the Chandigarh Chapter of the Indian Menopause Society, Convener of the Chandigarh Obs/Gynae Society, Executive Committee Member, Northern India Chapter of FOGSI, Founder Life Member of Indian society of Minimal Access & Gynae Endoscopic, Urogynae Surgery (IMAGES) and Coordinator. FOGSI Family Welfare Committee (Chandigarh region). She is invited frequently to deliver lectures and conduct training workshops in the country.Passionate about her work, Dr. Chawla has pioneered Gynae Endoscopic Surgery in the region in addition to her keen interest in hormonal problems among women (including delayed, irregular periods, excessive hair growth, obesity, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome/disease) and infertility (Ovulation Induction, Follicular Monitoring, Artificial Insemination – IUI, Sperm Preparation).

Her main interest, however, is Diagnostic and Operative Hysteroscopy and Laparoscopy for polyps, fibroids, adhesions, intrauterine septum, ovarian drilling, endometriosis and Laparoscopic Hysterectomy (LAVH) & Tubal Microsurgery. She uses the latest Versapoint Bipolar Coagulation System for hysteroscopic surgery and 2nd generation endometrial ablation by the Uterine Balloon Therapy.
