Quick Facts
Gastroenterology focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disorders affecting the digestive system, including the esophagus, stomach, intestines, liver, gallbladder, pancreas, and rectum. Common conditions include acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), constipation, diarrhea, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and gallbladder disease.
Surgical treatment may be recommended when medical therapy is insufficient. Common procedures include achalasia cardia surgery, hiatus hernia repair, intestinal resection, appendicectomy, gallbladder surgery, hernia repair, splenectomy, piles surgery, and rectal prolapse surgery, depending on the underlying condition.
Modern gastroenterology centres offer advanced diagnostic evaluation, minimally invasive surgical techniques, and multidisciplinary care to improve digestive health, reduce complications, and support faster recovery for patients with both benign and complex gastrointestinal disorders.
